Audition Requirements for Percussion

Undergraduate Requirements

Snare Drum

  • Concert style solo or etude
  • Optional Rudimental style solo

Mallets

  • 2-mallet or 4-mallet (or both) solo or etude on marimba, vibes or xylophone
  • Demonstration of scales

Timpani

  • Concert solo or etude for 2, 3, or 4 drums
  • Demonstrate tuning of pitches

Drum set (optional)

  • Perform various styles and/or short solo

Graduate Requirements

  • Concert style solo or etude
  • 2 excerpts from the standard orchestral repertoire
  • Rudimental solo (optional)

Mallets

  • 2-mallet solo or etude
  • 4-mallet solo or etude
  • 2 orchestral excerpts on xylophone
  • 2 orchestral excerpts on glockenspiel

Timpani

  • Concert solo or etude
  • 2 excerpts from the standard repertoire

Drum set

  • Optional solo and/or styles
