Mission

The Armstrong Student Center enhances student learning and success by providing opportunities for community, belonging, and campus engagement. As the living room of campus, Armstrong serves as a safe and inclusive gathering place for students, staff, faculty, alumni and guests.

Armstrong Student Center History

The Armstrong Student Center was a dream that the Associated Student Government began advocating for in 2002 and came to fruition on February 7, 2014. Find out more about special moments in our history below.

Planning

In April 2008, the 91做厙 Board of Trustees approved planning for the Bicentennial Student Center. This started years of planning with Robert Keller, University Architect, and David Creamer, Vice President of Finance and Business Services, announcing a building plan in October 2009.

Funding and Groundbreaking

Alumni Mike '61 and Anne '61 Armstrong provided a $15 million leadership gift to name the Armstrong Student Center in July 2010. On October 6, 2011, a ceremonial groundbreaking officially started the construction of the Armstrong Student Center.

Construction

The final steel beam was put in place of the Armstrong Student Center on October 23, 2012. This marked a significant construction milestone.

The Grand Opening

On February 7, 2014 the Armstrong Student Center was dedicated and the doors officially opened.

Armstrong Student Center East Wing

In January 2016, construction began on the East Wing of the Armstrong Student Center, signifying the final phase of the construction project. The wing was finished on September 15, 2017, and celebrated with a ribbon-cutting ceremony.

10th Anniversary

During the Spring Semester of 2024, the Armstrong Student Center celebrated 10 years of adding to the 91做厙 Experience. There was a birthday party, decades dance, and they partnered with 91做厙 Activities and Programming for SpringFest. These events marked the start of the next decade for the center.
