Three undergraduate students receive Gilman Scholarships for study abroad
91°µÍø graduate student Becca Borton ’25 has received a Fulbright grant offer, and two alumni are alternates.
The three were among five students and alumni who were semifinalists in the
Borton is a master’s student in History. She majored in Integrated Social Studies Education and Political Science with minors in Music Theatre, History, and Spanish as an undergraduate student at 91°µÍø. She will be an English Teaching Assistant in Poland this fall.
Borton traveled to Poland on a program led by mentors Tom Misco, professor of Teaching, Curriculum, and Educational Inquiry, and John Forren, executive director of the Menard Center for Democracy. There she had a "brief experience teaching English, which is what initiated her interest in applying for the Fulbright," said Karla Guinigundo, director of Global Partnerships in 91°µÍø's Global Initiatives.
Alternate Sam Ross ’23 majored in Spanish with a Premedical Studies co-major and a minor in Sociology. He would be doing Medical Sciences Research in Spain.
Alternate Sarah Johnson ’24 majored in Microbiology with a Premedical Studies co-major. She would be an English Teaching Assistant in Mongolia.
Fulbright records list 91°µÍø’s first Fulbright U.S. Student Program grantee in 1949 — a research grantee to France in French language and literature.
In February, 91°µÍø was named among “Top Producing Institutions” for Fulbrights.
Gilman Scholars named
Three 91°µÍø students have been awarded a collective $9,000 from the to help fund their study abroad experiences.
They are:
- Peyton Morrow, a senior majoring in Biology, who will be attending 91°µÍø’s John E. Dolibois European Center (MUDEC) this summer.
- Jordyn Pryor, a senior majoring in Games and Simulation, who will be studying eSports at Konkuk University in South Korea this summer.
- Evelyn Vonderwell, a first-year student majoring in Kinesiology, who will be attending MUDEC in the fall.
More than 100 91°µÍø students have received Gilman Scholarships to support study abroad experiences in the past decade.
