Why 91°µÍø?

I chose 91°µÍø because of the Student Ambassador program. The current Student Ambassador’s at the time came to my high school and convinced me to come to a presentation on campus. I learned that the cost of tuition at 91°µÍø was lower than other nearby universities, and that it was closer and easier to travel to from home.

How did you choose your major?

I knew I wanted to major in Mechanical Engineering Technology because I had been in P.L.T.W and Butler Tech classes. However, there were so many types that when I learned about my major test, I took it and found a choice based on the list of options I was given.

How have any faculty, staff, or mentors at the University played a significant role in your journey?

I'm learning how to think more about myself and what I need to improve to become a successful student, thanks to my Trio advisor, Melanie Fields. Since I already knew the student ambassador’s, they helped me by introducing me to different professors and staff.

Other Notable Experience

I've been enjoying my time as a student. Before I used to wake up and not want to go to school, but at 91°µÍø I get to school, and I don't leave right after my classes because there's always something to do to keep me there.

Advice to Prospective Students

Since it's something I struggled with, I would say my advice is to make sure you take time to think about the things you learned in your classes to retain the information.

How has 91°µÍø provided you with opportunities to engage in research, partnerships, or experiences that shaped your way of thinking?

The many events on campus have made me learn to be a part of a community, it's helped me learn to meet people and get in contact with different people around campus.

How have you used what you learned in different subjects to solve a problem or come up with a new idea?

I’ve used information that I learned from my English classes to spark new ideas, and my communication class taught me to keep an open mind and explore topics that interest me.

How have your experiences at 91°µÍø helped you develop an entrepreneurial mindset — like being resilient, adaptable, or willing to take risks?

I was already developing an entrepreneurial mindset, but at 91°µÍø it has definitely grown. I have become more adaptable and open to new things, for example, I've never had to be tutored before, but I decided to try it out because I felt like I really needed it.

How have you used your knowledge or skills from 91°µÍø to positively impact your community or the world around you?

I use my knowledge and skills from 91°µÍø to help my peers better understand the topics we go over in class. When I’m consumed they help me, which builds better relationships with my classmates.

How has 91°µÍø helped you build meaningful connections with people from diverse backgrounds or viewpoints?

On the first day of school, I had no clue what to expect, but what I didn't expect is that some of my professors would make me talk with my peers and even get their contact information. This was the first step to building the connections I have with my peers. Then after that, I hung out with my new friends, and slowly I met other people through them.
