Save the Date: Accessible Gaming Event!

Join us for a day of gaming, learning, and accessibility.

At the end of April, the AccessMU Center will host an accessible gaming showcase to demonstrate the importance—and downright coolness—of adaptive technology in gaming.

Join us April 30 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Armstrong Student Center, Room 1082, for a day of games, pizza, and learning!

Adaptive tech and gaming: Partnership that makes sense

Adaptive gaming technology helps create accessible spaces for people with disabilities. What’s more, there are many mental, social, and educational benefits of video games that these kinds of technologies make available to folks who otherwise might not be able to access.

The American Council for the Blind reported in 2023 that: “Assistive technology not only , but it gives people with disabilities the freedom to customize their gaming experience without having to wait for the developers.”

In fact, people with disabilities are able to thanks to these advances in technology. This population, which experiences higher levels of isolation, are using games to experience connection with others and engage in social activities.

Adaptive controllers, switches, joysticks, and input devices all provide inroads for everyone to experience video games, and entertainment companies are leveraging these technologies to appeal to an ever-widening audience of gamers.
