Child Life Specialist

The Child Life Specialist Graduate Certificate is designed for students who have already completed a bachelor’s degree and now wish to complete the necessary coursework to become eligible for certification as a child life specialist. This certificate includes courses in research methods, adolescent development, death/dying/bereavement, therapeutic play, and family systems. Students are also required to complete a field placement either in a healthcare or agency setting working with diverse children.

College Teaching

Earn a graduate certificate in College Teaching to better develop yourself as a teacher-scholar. Open to both graduate students and postdoctoral fellows alike, mentor-guided students will select courses in interdisciplinary pedagogy and learning theory in addition to discipline-specific teaching experiences. Students may be able to double-count hours toward their degree pursuit.

Counseling and Crisis Management in Higher Education

Counseling and crisis management is a critical, complex, and rapidly evolving area of student support that focuses on the mental health and well-being of college students and the institutional systems designed to protect them during times of significant distress. Our certificate provides administrators and practitioners with the knowledge to capably address the needs of their campuses.

Higher Education Administration

The graduate certificate in higher education administration provides students with content knowledge essential for higher education administrators, including a strong understanding of contemporary administrative responsibilities and realities, administrative functions, key principles of organizational theory and leadership, and awareness of emerging trends shaping today's higher education landscape.

Learning, Cognitive, and Brain Sciences

Equip students to bridge the gap between basic research in brain and cognitive sciences and its application to human learners in settings such as schools and other organizations. Students will study theories of human learning and education and connect them with courses in neuroscience, cognition, and cognitive development.

Mental Health Intervention

This certificate program will equip learners with theoretical knowledge of mental health intervention and counseling. It will also provide students with applied helping skills to support individuals’ well-being and mental health. The certificate does not lead to a professional license or certification.

Principal Licensure Certificate (Online)

Offers students who have an M.Ed. the opportunity to earn the coursework required for the Ohio Principal License issued by the Ohio Department of Education and Workforce. Coursework, grounded in the Principles of the Department of Educational Leadership, provides students with engaging learning opportunities, including a principal internship with the student's principal, to meet the multi-dimensional challenges and opportunities of school district governance.

Reading Endorsement Certificate (Online)

Provides the very latest in research and expertise for working with emergent and striving readers, including a supervised practicum. The endorsement certificate also provides insights into sociopolitical, cultural, and linguistic factors that affect literacy, and research practices that inform assessment and instructional design.

Self-Designed Graduate Certificate in Sport

The Self-Designed Graduate Certificate in Sport provides graduate students with the opportunity to create a unique program of study. Candidates will collaborate with a faculty advisor to assemble relevant coursework in accordance with each student’s academic and professional goals.

Sport Management

The Sport Management Graduate Certificate is designed to train students for management and leadership positions within the sports industry. With a focus on sport venue management, sport marketing, and strategic management of sport organizations, this graduate certificate program seeks to develop forward and innovative leaders for the future of the sports industry.

Sport Psychology

The Sport Psychology Graduate Certificate focuses on the study of psychological and social factors that influence sport and physical activity participation. Sport psychology involves the study of human thought, emotion, and behavior in recreational and competitive sports. This includes the study of individual processes such as motivational orientations, self-efficacy, and stress/anxiety, as well as social factors such as group processes, coaching, and leadership effectiveness.

Student Affairs in Higher Education

Teachers of English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) Endorsement Certificate (Online)

Prepares P-12 teachers to successfully engage English Language Learners (ELLs) in a teaching capacity. The courses emphasize real-world understanding of the cultural and language development issues facing ELLs, their families, and their teachers in schools.
